Safety Guidelines

SetMates helps creatives find each other, but it does not verify who members are and is not there when you meet. This advice is for everyone — photographers, models, creators, organizers and brands.

Before you agree to work together

  • Look at their profile, portfolio and reviews. Be cautious with a new profile that has little work, or work that does not match the person you are talking to.
  • Talk before the shoot, by video if you can, and keep the planning in the SetMates conversation for that project or booking, so there is a record.
  • Agree the details in writing: where, when, how long, who else will be there, what to wear or bring, how the images will be used, and whether and how you will be paid.
  • For a location you do not know, check that it is a real studio or public place.

Money and scams

  • SetMates never asks you for payment, and never takes payment on anyone’s behalf.
  • Be wary of anyone asking you to pay a fee to be cast, to cover “equipment”, or to receive your fee; of overpayments followed by a request to send money back; and of requests for gift cards, cryptocurrency or wire transfers to people you have not worked with.
  • Agree payment terms before the work. If something feels wrong, stop and report it.

On the day

  • Tell someone you trust where you are going, who you are meeting and when you expect to finish.
  • You are welcome to bring a friend, an assistant or a chaperone. A professional will not object.
  • Consent can change at any time. You can stop a shoot, decline a pose or outfit, or leave, without explanation.
  • Do not drink or take anything that affects your judgement at a shoot with people you do not know well.
  • Arrange your own way home.

Protecting your privacy

  • SetMates never shows your exact location, only an approximate area. Keep it that way: do not put your home address, phone number or daily routine in your public profile.
  • Share personal contact details only when you are ready to, and only with people you have decided to work with.
  • Think about what your images reveal, such as the view from your window or your car’s number plate.

If something goes wrong

  • Block anyone you do not want to hear from. They will no longer be able to find or contact you on SetMates.
  • Report profiles, messages, images, opportunities, services, reviews and invitations that break our policies. Reports are reviewed by people, and the member is not told who reported them.
  • If you are in danger, contact local emergency services first. In the United States, call 911. In Thailand, call 191 for police or 1669 for medical emergencies; the Tourist Police are on 1155.
